The real test for a service like Northumbria is when you take over a large number of staff all at once who are also working in a new company. Northumbria faced that challenge with Care Plus Group in July 2011 when we transferred 720 staff out of the NHS and into a social enterprise. The highest risk on our risk register was that a significant number of staff would get paid wrong, or even worse – not paid at all. On the first pay run, there were three errors out of 720!
